Recently we had the pleasure to be given the refurbishment of this old farm lodge open fire in Syresham, where the chimney had become breached over time allowing smoke to escape in to the bedroom above, the owner wanted us to keep the original open fire & not damage it during the relining process.
After power sweeping the chimney clean, we had to remove the old broken clay fireback, insert new clay fireback & a bespoke metal gather, this meant we had to gain access through the chimney breast above the marble surround & remove parts of the surround as this had become loose over time, once gather & fireback was fitted we backfilled with Mika / cement up to collar.
New liner with insulation jacket was then installed down the chimney & connected to the gather & fireplace closed off, marble surround was fixed securely back to wall.
Outside on the chimney stack the liner was secured & plated off, with new buff pot & cowl re-flaunched to stack. chimney breast was rendered, re-plastered so looks like it did originally.
Once installation works were completed the fire was lit, cleaned up & fully sealed looking as good as when originally fitted, this is now up to current building regulations & safe to use for many years to come,
Many Thanks to Tom for access equipment used & help during the installation & Deni for the endless supply of tea & bacon rolls.
We really enjoyed doing this refurbishment & like to thanks Angela for allowing us to complete these works for her.
